Lots of people get on well with a bar of soap as an eco-friendly replacement for shower gel, but it’s not for everyone. I actually developed an aversion to the classic smell of most bar soaps when I was pregnant with my second baby and I haven’t quite recovered from that yet, so I prefer a liquid shower gel, personally, but I’m not a fan of consuming lots of plastic bottles!

Luckily, there are excellent eco-friendly options available now that lets you enjoy the convenience of shower gel in a zero waste way.

Let me introduce you to the wonderful Shower Gel Flakes from Ben & Anna.

Ben & Anna is a NaTrue certified cruelty-free and vegan natural beauty brand that makes lovely products that are sustainable, kind to the skin and kind to the planet. Their shower gel flakes are an excellent alternative to conventional shower gels, without the waste.

They work like this: The shower gel flakes come in a paper sachet that you add to a suitable dispenser, then add 200ml of hot water. Pop the lid on and shake, then leave for 20 minutes to let the liquid develop, and – voilà, you have created your very own shower gel at home. Easy peasy!

You get two sachets in each pack which each make a bottle of shower gel. This is great value at £5.95 per 2-pack.

There are currently four scents to choose from:

  • Blue Basil
  • Mint & Lemon
  • Fruit Fusion
  • Sweet Floral

They all sound amazing! We have the Blue Basil scent which is inspired by the scent of the sea, with a beautiful mix of fresh basil and cooling eucalyptus. I love the seaside and the water, so I am often drawn to refreshing scents like this.

I absolutely love the formula of this shower gel! It’s so creamy and rich, and you only need a small amount for each shower, so it lasts longer than a regular bottle of shower gel too. It leaves my skin cleansed and silky soft, nourished and hydrated. It’s a great quality product that I highly recommend for anyone who’s looking for a good shower gel.

Ben & Anna also have the perfect durable and re-usable dispenser for their shower gel flakes available in their online shop if you don’t have a suitable container to use at home. Alternatively, there’s a glass soap dispenser from IKEA called TACKAN priced at just 75p that is also the perfect size for one shower gel flakes batch.
