How to Improve Your Energy Levels this Winter
|How to Improve Your Energy Levels this Winter
Winter is a long season, and the short, dark days quickly make lots of people feel extra tired. The good news is that there are simple things that you can change in your life to improve your energy levels. Read on for some tips for how to get a much-needed energy boost!
- Get daily exercise (preferably outdoors)
When you’re feeling exhausted, your first thought is rarely to go and do some exercise but it’s a great way to boost energy levels. Try to get regular, daily exercise – even if it’s just a short walk to start with. Getting out in the daylight is especially beneficial for your energy levels and overall health. A bit of sunshine will help you feel happier and give you a boost of energy too. Spending time outdoors also helps you sleep better which is a nice bonus!
- Improve your diet (and eat often)
Eating a healthy diet full of nutrient-rich foods is a great way to ensure you’re doing your best to feel more energised. Try to eat regularly throughout the day to keep your energy levels up. Aim for three meals and a few healthy snacks each day. Eating a healthy diet will help you maintain a healthy body weight too which also helps with energy levels. Boost your meals with healthy ingredients such as Milled Flaxseed with Bio Cultures & Vitamin D to support your immune system through your diet which will improve your energy levels too.
- Drink less alcohol (but more water)
Drinking a couple of glasses of wine in the evening can help some people fall asleep more quickly but alcohol has a negative impact on your sleep quality so you will sleep less deeply after having had a drink. This means you are likely to be tired the next day, even if you have slept for a good amount of hours. Don’t rely on alcohol for getting to sleep – instead take time to create a calming evening routine for yourself to help you relax. Cutting down on your caffeine intake is likely to help you sleep better too.
Instead, increase your water intake for better energy as a lot of the time we feel tired due to mild dehydration. Keep water available throughout the day to keep you hydrated at all times.
- Sleep better (but not too much)
To feel energetic, it’s naturally important to make sure that you get enough sleep and that the sleep that you’re getting is of good quality. Modern life is busy and most people don’t get enough sleep. There are lots of things that you can do to help you get a good night’s sleep and they include: having a relaxing evening routine, going to bed at the same time each night (and waking up at a consistent time in the mornings too) and avoiding screens, caffeine, alcohol, and heavy meals too late in the day. Making your bedroom a calm, dark, and peaceful place is another way to encourage good sleep.
- Take a daily supplement (especially iron)
Nutrient deficiencies can cause tiredness so it’s a good idea to take a daily multivitamin. If you’re struggling with fatigue, it’s especially important to ensure that you are getting enough iron and this can be done by taking Active Iron. Lots of people complain about side effects from poorly absorbed iron supplements but you don’t need to worry about that with Active Iron which works synergistically with your body to ensure you get the right amount of iron while being gentle on your stomach. This supplement is clinically proven to increase iron levels so that you can enjoy better energy levels.
- Reduce stress (and aim to do less)
Last, but not least, you need to reduce your stress levels. There are many things that you can do to de-stress like exercising, talking to friends, doing yoga etc, but if you are feeling stressed often, it’s a good idea to try to reduce the stressful things in your life too. Aim to have less to do. Too busy is not good for us. Learn to say no to things that are not valuable to you, schedule empty space in your calendar and try to be efficient with the things that you do have to do.
Hopefully these tips will be useful to you if you are suffering from low energy levels and a tiredness that doesn’t seem to go away. Invest in yourself, in your own health and well-being and your energy levels should be on their way up soon.
