Interior Design Updates & Plans for the Children’s Rooms

It’s been about three months since we moved to our new house but with Christmas, a long snagging list and the birth of a new baby, we still have a few things to sort out. Nothing big really, just some interior design details that complete the look of the rooms and make a house feel more like a home.

We’re currently focusing on the children’s rooms as there are only a few small things left to do in those rooms.

Our two older daughters share a bedroom which is just for reading, sleeping and getting dressed and then we have an office/playroom which is mainly playroom and this is where we keep all the toys and where most of the playing is done.

Bedroom Updates to Come

The girls’ bedroom is so close to being finished. We got the beds and clothing storage sorted very soon after we moved in as they were essentials. Since then, we’ve added some artwork that’s resting on a chest of drawers (we still need to hang these once we’ve figured out where to put them permanently) and some curtains.

What’s left to do is to decorate the walls and to add a new lamp. We’ve got a lamp on order from MADE.com (above) but the delivery time was 2 months or something so we’re still waiting for that to arrive. It was the only lamp we could find that my husband liked so that’s why we got it. We do have a lamp at the moment that will be moved to the guest room once this lamp arrives.

For the walls we have two ideas. The wall next to my eldest daughter’s bed will be a feature wall and we have a Kids Pastel Rainbow Wallpaper Mural from MuralsWallpaper.com ready to be put up there. She will absolutely love this, I’m sure! She’s rainbow obsessed and the colours will go really well with the yellow bedding and pink curtains.

MuralsWallpaper.com have lots of cool designs for the whole family. I really love this jungle one above too. Here’s a link to all the children’s wallpaper murals.

For the other wall, where our toddler sleeps, we have Alphabet Train ABC Childrens Wall Sticker from IconWallStickers.co.uk. It’s the perfect length for that wall and our toddler is currently really into learning to write the letters of the alphabet so she’ll enjoy peering up at this wall sticker when she’s in bed.

Playroom Updates to Come

Excuse the toy mess above! In the playroom we still have some toy and book storage to sort out. We have two Trofast units from IKEA and want to add another one to hide some more toys! We also desperately need to find a bookshelf for the kids’ books. We have lots of books, but we haven’t been able to find a bookshelf that we like yet. If you have any recommendations, please let me know in the comments. We’d like something tall and sturdy – either wooden or something colourful!

To decorate the white walls that all newbuilds come with, we are going to add a large rainbow wall sticker from IconWallStickers.co.uk. The one we have is called Everyone Wants Happiness Rainbow Wall Sticker but we ordered it without the quote on the bottom. It’s really bright and bold and will look great on this wall above the Trofast storage units. This is where we store most of our wooden rainbow toys too so that will be a nice match.

That’s it! Then these rooms are pretty much done, and we can move onto the next project!

The wall stickers and wall mural have been kindly gifted for review. Stay tuned for full reviews coming soon here on the blog!
