smarTrike STR7 Folding Stroller Trike

Toddlers often reach a stage when they no longer enjoy spending lots of time in a pushchair and, when you get to this phase, it’s a great time to introduce a stroller trike like the smarTrike STR7 Stroller Trike. This will let you have all the convenience and security of a pushchair but will be much more fun for your little one as they’ll be able to engage with their surroundings better and develop new skills too.

Let’s have a look at some of the brilliant features that the STR7 Stroller Trike offers!

smarTrike 6-in-1 STR7 Stroller Trike

The STR7 is suitable from 6 months onward and grows with your child in 6 stages:

  • Explore – a baby leg rest and safety bar around the waist. Recline the seat for a nap.
  • Stroll – a footrest for growing toddler legs and safety bar around the waist.
  • Pedal – attach the pedals to start practising pedalling. Safety bar still in use.
  • Steer – start practising steering control while close to the parent.
  • Ride – its’ time to ride independently and fully control the trike.
  • Fold – compact fold for travel and storage.

From a parent’s point of view, the steering of the STR7 is very smooth (even with one hand) and comfortable. The stroller trike has shock absorbers to provide a smooth ride too.

I love having the storage bag and the organiser at the top. A hook somewhere (perhaps on the back of the seat) would be handy too for even more storage, but the included options are generous and designed well.

It’s easy to change the settings and swap between parent and child steering control and to fold the footrests out when needed. I love the safety features of the 5-point-harness, the safety bar, and the leg rest for younger children. The handlebar for the child adjusts so that it can be reached by younger babies and toddlers. The large sun canopy provides good coverage from sun and rain and has different settings too.

From a child’s point of view, the seat is large and comfortable, and the stroller trike is fun to ride! My 3-year-old LOVES her new STR7 stroller trike! She’s definitely at an age where she only wants to go in a pushchair if she’s tired and we generally walk most places. But, there are some times when it’s handy to have stroller – long days out, for example, to be able to offer her legs a break when needed and to be able to walk faster at times.

This stroller trike is perfect for us for times like this. We’ve taken it on train rides to explore other cities and to get to appointments in time and it works so well. My three-year-old loves it so much, she doesn’t even want to get out and walk which is unusual for her! Riding her trike must be very comfortable and lots of fun!

How to Fold smarRrike STR7?

The fold is compact and not too complicated – though you have to fold the handlebar all the way round which is not something you can do one-handed. The large front wheel easily clicks off and the stroller trike has a built-in storage bag for it to keep any dirt away.

You can find the full detailed and illustrated smarTrike STR7 folding trike instructions in the smarTrike STR7 manual that is included with your trike and also on the smarTrike website.

smarTrike STR7 FAQ

What age is the smarTrike STR7 for?

The recommended ages for the Smartrike STR7 are 6 – 36 months.

When can babies use smart trikes?

The smarTrike STR7 can be used from 6 months but whether it’s suitable from that age or not depends on your baby. If your baby still wants to sleep a lot whilst out and about, a pushchair or pram would be more comfortable for naps. Once your baby becomes a toddler, they’ll be more likely to enjoy using a smarTrike.

Can babies sleep in smarTrike?

Yes the smarTrike STR7 Stroller Trike has a reclining option for nap times.

Is there a smartrike str7 folding stroller trike rain cover?

Yes there is a raincover specially designed for the STR7 Stroller Trike to ensure a perfect fit. It’s ideal for protecting your child against rain and wind. The smarTrike STR7 Rain Cover has a front opening feature so that you can pass things to the child without having to remove or lift the rain cover. It also folds flat for easy storage.

What is the difference between STR3 and STR7?

  • The STR3 can be used from 10 months and the STR7 from 6 months – this is the main difference.
  • The STR3 grows with your child in 5 stages, while the STR7 grows with your child in 6 stages.
  • They both turn into fully independent trikes.
  • The STR3 has a two-tiered canopy, while the STR7 has a four-tiered canopy.
  • Both trike models come with a large storage bag but the STR7 has a parent-handle storage bag too.
  • The rest of the features are very similar.

Can you take smarTrike on a plane?

Yes, you can take a smarTrike on a plane. Always check the airline’s policy before travelling but most will allow passengers with young children to take a stroller/pram/fold-up trike with them on the plane as checked in luggage or carry-on depending on the airline and aircraft type.

Are trike strollers worth it?

Yes, I think they are worth the cost. They are not that expensive compared to many brands of pushchairs and offer so much versatility. You can use them as a stroller for your baby or toddler, as a push tricycle and as a tricycle for your child to ride on their own. You’ll use it for much longer than a regular stroller. The smarTrike trikes are great quality too so you can use your trike for multiple children and pass it on/sell it on when you are done with it too. Plus, toddlers love riding on a smarTrike!

What are the disadvantages of a trike?

  • Napping is not as comfortable as in a stroller.
  • Trikes are not as easy to steer as a stroller.
  • Trikes can not be used easily on uneven terrain.
  • Though most smarTrikes come with a bag, it’s not as big as the storage you would have under a regular pram or stroller. You can fit your child’s essentials in the bag but wouldn’t be able to fit a small food shop like you usually can in a pushchair’s basket.

Doona trike vs smarTrike

Is the Doona Liki Trike better than the smarTrike STR7? Having used both these trikes with my kids, I can say that they are comparable. I do like how the Doona Liki Trike folds really compactly. With the smarTrike, you remove the large front wheel for folding which is slightly annoying. Both require a similar amount of effort to fold and unfold. The canopy of the STR7 offers better weather protection than the Doona Liki Trike.
