The Best Family Travel Tips for a Stress-Free Family Holiday

Summer is the best time for getting away on a family holiday, making the most of the summer school holidays and spending as much quality time together as possible. Well, that’s the dream at least! Unfortunately, family holidays often end up including lots of stress for the parents and lots of bickering between the children if you have more than one child.
In this article, I’m going to share some family travel tips to (hopefully!) make your family holiday a smooth and happy experience. Let’s see how we can make it happen!
- Make the journey part of the adventure
Whether you are heading out on a road trip in the UK, hopping on a train or going to the airport to travel even further, make the journey a part of the adventure. Travelling is fun and exciting, especially for kids! Have some special activities planned such as travel themed activity books or play eye spy or do a treasure hunt to keep the kids happy and entertained.
- Travel in Comfort
Choose comfortable outfits for yourself and your children to travel in. For my girls, I usually go for thin cotton joggers, a soft t-shirt and a hoodie. Aeroplanes tend to get quite cold! Choose shoes that can be taken off and put on easily and don’t forget to pack some spare clothes in case of spillage! Dressing your kids in bright colours will make them easier to spot too.
- Pack Entertainment Options
If you’re travelling for any longer periods of time, always pack some entertainment options that your children will enjoy. Mix it up with some episodes of their favourite show on a tablet, toys, travel games, activity books and audiobooks.
We’ve recently been introduced to Voxblock which is a screen free, easy-to-use audiobook player for children. It’s so easy to use for little ones and there’s no need for WiFi, downloads/set ups or apps which I’m very happy about. The sturdy and lightweight players are easy for small hands to hold and fully portable. The tangible audiobooks just slot into the easy-to-use player. They even look like miniature books and are so cute! There are lots of different books to choose from for different age groups and travel packs are available too. Voxblock is a brilliant device to use at home or when travelling. They’re available to buy direct and via Amazon.co.uk.
- Pack Plenty of Snacks
The most important part of keeping children happy is to keep them fed. Keep energy levels and moods up with plenty of snacks and a few treats that you know your children will love. Buying stuff at service stations or at the airport costs a fortune, so save your money and pack plenty of snacks that you have purchased in advance from your supermarket instead. Cereal bars, fruit pouches, raisins, brioche buns, small snack boxes with nuts or fruit, and a few sweet treats are our go to options. If you’re travelling over a mealtime, you can even pack a full lunch box. We always take our reusable water bottles too. Fill them up with water at home and refill on your journey. There are usually free water refill stations in airports and in some train stations too.
Fed, comfortable, and entertained kids are easier to deal with. Hopefully the above family travel tips will come in handy for you if you’re heading out on an adventure with your family this summer!
Collaboration.
