The Interior Details that Make Your Home Stand Out
Over the past year and a half, my husband and I have visited many, many show homes in the search for our new house. We’ve finally exchanged contracts and our newbuild should be ready towards the end of this year which is very exciting for us.
Show homes are quite special — they’re always decorated very lavishly to look luxurious and impressive and they certainly do. Though most of them have not been our style at all, we can see how some interior details really make a big difference to the overall look and feel of a home.
Here are some details that are worth to consider if you’re looking to create a home that stands out and feels extra special plus a few lessons to learn from show homes:
- Lights
Show homes always have more lights and lamps than most regular homes. If you look around, you’ll spot lots of spotlights and pendants as well as mood lights in the form of table lamps and floor lamps. A light and bright home looks clean, big and inviting and few extra light sources will quickly make your home look nicer.
- Radiators
The radiators of impressive homes and show homes are never just the standard ones. Instead, they are stylish Modern Radiators that not only heat the house but look great while they do so too. They become a part of the decor — not something to be hidden away. In the bathrooms of show homes, you often see exquisite stainless steel towel radiators, like Aeon Radiators, and they always look lovely and are an important part of the overall bathroom look.
- Switches & Plug Sockets
Many things in a newbuild are upgrades if you want it to look more like the show homes you’ve been visiting. One of the smaller details that really make a big difference to your home is what kind of switches and plug sockets you have. As standard, newbuilds come with white plastic ones but if you upgrade these to something a bit fancier, like chrome ones, your house will look much more luxurious. - Floors
Whether you go for carpets, wooden flooring or floor tiles, high quality flooring will make your home look great. You don’t have to go for the most expensive choice — it’s mainly about quality, not the price. The floors you choose need to withstand use and not wear or scratch easily so that they will look nice for a long time.
These are some of the important details that we’ve noticed when looking at dozens of show homes and they really add to a home’s overall look and feel and make it look extra special and well thought out.
