The Primal Pantry Protein Bars Review – The Cleanest Protein Bars Around
Last year, I reviewed some delicious raw and Paleo snack bars from The Primal Pantry — you can read those reviews here. They are some of my favourite snack bars as they are healthy and clean but also absolutely delicious!
Now The Primal Pantry have released a new range of completely natural protein bars too and I couldn’t wait to try them. I’m always looking for healthy snacks to help keep my energy levels up and help me through the day. I’m definitely a snacker. I get hungry between meals and like to have healthy snack bars on hand to eat especially when I’m out and about. As a vegetarian, I’m also conscious that I get enough complete protein throughout the day.
At the moment, I’m in even more need of nutritious and healthy snacks as I have a demanding newborn that I’m breastfeeding and a wild toddler to look after too.
The Primal Pantry recognises that the human body is a machine that needs high quality fuel to function at its best, whether you’re exercising a lot or lead a busy and active life. Like the snack bars, the protein bars from The Primal Pantry only contain a few ingredients and they are high quality, natural and cold pressed ones. There are no additives, preservatives, flavourings or colourants in sight.
The protein bars are the perfect mix of protein, fats and carbohydrate. Each bars contains over 10g of quality protein and has around 200 nutrient dense calories.
The protein in the bars comes from 100% raw ground British hemp seed which contains all 20 amino acids and therefor is a complete protein. This is exactly what I’m looking for as a vegetarian who doesn’t eat eggs. Hemp is also high in fibre and Omega 3. It’s raw, minimally processed and suitable for vegans too.
The protein bars contain healthy carbohydrates from dates and coconut nectar. The whole dates used are high in fibre and nutritionally superior to most carb sources used in other sports products as they don’t just contain sugar for quick release energy but have fibre that ensures a sustained energy release so there’s no sudden sugar rush and dip.
The fat comes from nuts and seeds which is a natural and healthy way to provide the body with fuel for longer periods of time.
The bars are Paleo, raw, vegan, gluten free and only flavoured with natural ingredients. There are two delicious flavours to choose from — Cocoa Orange and Mixed Berries. I’ve tried them both and they are so yummy! The have a fudge-like yet crumbly texture and are full of flavour! There are generously sized bits of fruit and nuts in the bars. I love both flavours but am particularly fond of the Cocoa Orange one as chocolate and orange is one of my favourite flavour combinations.
These bars make a great snack — they are filling and satisfying and scrumptious! Good for calming down sweet cravings too. With 10-11g of protein per bar, The Primal Pantry bars are in line with similar protein based bars/balls however they have an entirely clean list of ingredients free from refined syrups, additives or flavourings which make them a healthier and more natural option. The bars cost £1.99 per 55g bar.
