Under the Sea: The World of Whales & Fox and the Deep Sea Quest

We have a couple of new books from Little Gestalten that I would like to share with you today. They share a common theme — under the sea! Read on to find out more about The World of Whales and  Fox and the Deep Sea Quest.

The World of Whales – Get to know the Giants of the Ocean is a book written by wildlife lover Darcy Dobell and illustrated by Becky Thorns (this is her first picture book). It’s a beautiful book all about these fascinating mammals living in our oceans. In this wonderful book, we explore lots of interesting facts about whales in general and details of 16 different species from the whale family, like their habits and characteristics.

It’s a great book for curious children who want to learn more about what these amazing animals. The text snippets are quite short but detailed breakdowns so easy for young children from around the age of 5-6 years to read and the illustrations throughout the book are absolutely stunning.

The book also has tips on how to protect the ocean and the whales, inspiring children to look after the environment. It’s a lovely book that my girls love to explore.

Fox and the Deep Sea Quest

From Fox and the Deep Sea Quest, Little Gestalten, 2020

I was so happy to hear about the release of Fox and the Deep Sea Quest as The Mystery of the Golden Wonderflower (read my review of this book here) featuring Fox is one of our all time favourite children’s books!

In this book written and illustrated by Benjamin Flouw, we come along on Fox’s next adventure and this time we’re hearing underwater.

In this under the sea mission, Fox embarks on an expedition to into the depths of the deep blue sea with his cousin Wolf that we know from the first book.

As in the first book, Fox is always well-prepared and we see his planning and equipment packing too (we love the page showing his diving gear especially!).

They go diving together with everything they need, including an underwater camera and a mission to find a mysterious plant (the mica anemone that glows in the dark!), meeting algae, coral, fish and other creatures including a whale trapped in a fishing net on the way.

The book features Fox’s adventure as well as touches on the topic of plastic pollution and also offers ideas for activities that children can do at the seaside.

It’s another new favourite for us and we hope to see more Fox adventures in the future! We love Fox’s character and enjoy coming along on his outdoorsy adventures. The books we have featuring Fox are both so beautiful and special.
