My Favourite Vegan Japanese Food + Where to Buy Asian Food and Snacks Online | AD

I love Japanese food – it’s definitely one of my favourite cuisines. Growing up, my family spent some time living in Japan and because of that, Japanese food is an important part of my upbringing and my family still.

In this blog post, I thought I’d gather my absolute favourite Japanese foods and also share where to buy Asian food and snacks online.

My Favourite Vegan Japanese Dishes

• Udon Noodles. Udon noodles are thick Japanese noodles made of wheat flour. They are really thick and bright white, and have a chewy texture. They look a bit like worms but taste great! I prefer to eat them stir fried with garlic, onion, soy sauce, sesame oil, and veggies, then top them with Furikake or chopped nuts for a bit of crunch. Sometimes I add fried tofu or some peanut butter too. I like to put my own spin on things so rarely follow recipes – I just add what I like and what I have.
• Vegetarian Sushi/Vegan Sushi. Sushi is amazingly tasty! Before I became a vegetarian as a child, I used to enjoy sashimi and sushi with salmon but since my dietary changes, my favourite sushi are avocado nigiri and Inari sushi which is a fried tofu bag filled with sushi rice. They are very addictive and so delicious! I also enjoy Maki rolls with different vegan fillings, served with soy sauce and a generous dollop of wasabi, of course.
• Vegan Miso Soup. Another simple thing that I enjoy is vegan miso soup. Not all miso soup mixes are vegan/vegetarian – some contain fish, so do check the label if you are vegan or vegetarian. I love silken tofu, Nori, and spring onion in my miso soup. Miso paste is also delicious added to Japanese noodle dishes for that brilliant umami flavour!
