Treating Sun Damage with CurrentBody Red Light Mask Series 2 | AD

I have been using the CurrentBody Red Light Mask Series 2 for quite some time (about a year!) now and feel like I have got into a good red light therapy routine. For the best results (with pretty much anything), consistency is key and that’s the case with red light therapy too.

In this article, I share my personal results, how I incorporate my CurrentBody Red Light Mask Series 2 and Neck & Décolletage Mask into my skincare routine, and explore how red light therapy can help treat sun damaged skin. Let’s get started.

My Results – CurrentBody Red Light Mask Long-Term Use

Above you can see my personal results of using the CurrentBody Red Light Mask Series 2 regularly. My skin tone and texture is much more even, with redness and pigmentation reduced. I think that my skin looks younger overall too. It’s more plump, fine lines are less noticeable and my skin has a healthy glow. I’ve had some compliments on my skin looking good, which is nice, and I am regularly getting asked for ID both which is nice when you’re getting close to 40.

Why CurrentBody?

CurrentBody is my go-to choice for red light therapy. Their CurrentBody Red Light Mask Series 2 offers superior LED light placement with 236 LEDs that emit the 3 most clinically proven wavelengths for anti-ageing, penetrating up to 10mm into the skin. The LEDs are evenly distributed and precisely spaced to ensure full coverage and an even treatment without dark spots/weaker areas. The mask itself is made from flexible liquid silicone that contours to every face for full coverage. The extended chin coverage ensures the jawline gets the full benefits too which is important to me.

Unlike other masks on the market every single CurrentBody mask has been clinically tested with Veritace® to ensure it matches clinical standards. You get a NFC card with your device that lets you trace the testing of your mask through every stage of the quality testing your LED mask has undergone. Veritace® sets a unique standard of guaranteed quality for beauty tech and shows how committed CurrentBody is to delivering high quality products.

How CurrentBody Fits into my Skincare Routine

CurrentBody advises to use their Red Light Mask for a 10-minute treatment 3-5 times per week so that is my goal. Living in a busy household with three children, my days are not always predictable so I take my moments of self-care when I can.

Some days, this can be in the morning if I find a pocket of time. I sometimes do my red light skincare whilst checking emails/messages from school, while the kids get ready. I find the morning time good for using my red light mask when my skin is clean and free from products. Before we set off on the school run, I apply my SPF and I have to wash this off if I want to do my treatments later in the day.

Sometimes, mornings can be hectic and then I try to find a moment in the evening instead which is a nice way to unwind too. I cleanse my face, neck and décolletage to remove any traces of sun cream, then spend 10 minutes in peace with my red light masks and a good book. The habit stacking works well for me – not only do I get to pamper my skin, but I also get to relax with my book. Win-win.

Treating Sun Damage with Red Light

Since it’s summer and it’s been so sunny and warm even here in the UK, I thought this would be a good time to talk about how you can use red light to treat skin with sun damage. With this, I mean skin that shows signs of sun damage, not skin with sun burn (don’t use any masks on skin with sun burn!).

Signs of sun damage include:

  • Fine lines & wrinkles
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Uneven skin texture
  • Sun spots/mild hyperpigmentation
  • Inflammation/redness
  • Dehydrated skin
  • Weakened skin barrier
  • Loss of collagen

Red light therapy can help with all of the above which is amazing. It has been shown in clinical studies to boost collagen production, improve circulation, and support the skin’s natural repair process. It can also help make skin tone and texture more even, reduce redness, reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and fade hyperpigmentation.

Addressing My Own Sun Damage

I have quite fair skin myself and am careful in the sun to protect my skin from skin cancer and to prevent premature ageing. In the spring and summer, I always use SPF 50 creams on my face and cover up as much as possible with wide-brimmed hats, thin linen shirts, etc.

Over the past few years, I have been paying more attention to my neck and décolletage as these areas that many forget and amongst the first to show signs of ageing (along with the back of your hands!). I apply my SPF on my face and then work down my neck and décolletage if what I am wearing leaves this area exposed to the sun.

CurrentBody Neck & Décolletage Mask Series 2

This month, I have added the CurrentBody Neck & Décolletage Mask Series 2 to my routine as well to help this area look its best. It’s not been difficult at all to squeeze this in, as I can do it at the same time as my CurrentBody Red Light Mask Series 2. Both treatments take the same amount of time and you can easily wear the two simultaneously.

CurrentBody LED Neck & Décolletage Mask Series 2

CurrentBody’s LED Neck & Décolletage Mask Series 2 has a large silicone shape designed for optimal full-neck coverage. It offers 3 highly precise wavelengths: red (633nm), near-infrared (830nm) and new deep near-infrared (1072nm) and comes with a Veritace® guarantee that ensures the highest level of testing for maximum results.

Before & After (after just a few weeks)

Because I haven’t always been great at applying SPF to my neck and décolletage area, I have some sun damage here – some uneven skin tone and sun spots. No wrinkles here yet but I could tell that the area was in need of some TLC.

I’m only a few weeks into using this as part of my regular routine but can already see an improvement in the area with a more even skin tone and texture, and a nice glow. I’m excited to see the long-term results in this area too!
