Weleda Willow Bark – New to the Aknedoron Purifying Range

I’ve been a fan of Weleda’s Aknedoron range for years now. I discovered Aknedoron when I was looking for natural ways to treat acne that wouldn’t irritate and damage my skin. I fell in love and always recommend Aknedoron to anyone struggling with breakouts.

“Weleda’s original Aknedoron Purifying Lotion and Aknedoron Cleansing Lotion are two of the oldest Weleda skincare products the cleanser was introduced in 1923 and has been manufactured in the UK since the 1940s. They continue to be ‘home grown’ and made at Weleda’s Derbyshire head quarters today.”

You can read about the Original Aknedoron Cleansing Lotion here and the Original Aknedoron Purifying Lotion here. They are both amazing products that I wouldn’t be without.

When I heard that Weleda were adding new products to the amazing Aknedoron range, I got very excited to see what they were. They launched this month so are brand new!

The three new Willow Bark products in the Aknedoron range are:

  • Weleda Willow Bark Purifying Gel Cleanser
  • Weleda Willow Bark Refining Lotion
  • Weleda Willow Bark SOS Spot Treatment

“Weleda’s willow bark extract is sustainably collected from the wild in Europe from four species of willow. A natural antimicrobial with soothing properties, willow bark contains salicin, a natural anti-inflammatory compound. Willow is also rich in polyphenols including flavonoids, which contribute antioxidant benefits to help repair skin damage.”

The Purifying Gel Cleanser is a gentle gel cleanser that cleanses your skin and your pores. It’s formulated for skin prone to breakouts and helps cleanse skin, reduce oiliness and removes make-up too. It’s a lovely cleanser to use that makes my skin feel super clean but not stripped of moisture. The pure essential oils (chamomile, lavender and peppermint) smell absolutely amazing and are all also natural antibacterials so help keep breakouts away. I don’t often wear make-up but love using this as a deep cleaning cleanser on days when I’ve been wearing SPF and feel that my skin needs a proper cleanse.

The Refining Lotion is a light and non-comedogenic moisturising lotion that will not feel too heavy on oily skin. It’s refreshing and hydrating and feels great on my skin. It’s packed with antibacterial willow bark extract and soothing organic witch hazel to keep skin clear. It has a lasting mattifying effect which is great if you’re concerned about too much shine due to oily skin. My skin feels smooth, hydrated and protected when I use this. I love using it in the mornings for the matte effect and it absorbs so quickly too. It helps keep skin clear and heal and calm any existing blemishes. Like the cleanser, it’s also fragranced with the same pure essential oils.

Last but not least, the SOS Spot Treatment is a calming and cooling spot treatment that you use directly on any breakouts or if you feel one coming under the skin. It’s made with antibacterial willow extract and astringent witch hazel distillate, to improve the appearance of redness in your skin overnight, reducing the appearance of both spots and blackheads and reducing sebum. It also contains two more natural antibacterials thyme and sulphur which also reduce sebum. It feels effective on my skin but not drying or stinging like conventional spot treatments.

Having suffered from hormonal breakouts for many years and looking for natural and effective skincare products, I’m so pleased to see the brilliant Aknedoron range expanding with three more amazing products.

Currently (touch wood) my skin is okay and I don’t get any big breakouts like before. I had my third baby a year ago and am coming to the end of breastfeeding so that can all change when the hormones in my body do. I do experience small breakouts around my period and ovulation and especially make sure to incorporate Aknedoron in my skincare routine during those weeks and now also use these Willow Bark products.

I reach for the Refining Lotion most mornings when I’m not using an SPF (depends on how much time I’ll be spending outdoors that day) and use the cleanser when I want to deeply cleanse my skin after using heavier creams with SPF. I use the spot treatment as a targeted treatment when I have breakouts or feel one coming. All these products work very well they are so gentle but very efficient.

Acne is a common skin concern for women and men of many ages and, here in the UK, acne leads to 3.5 million doctor visits every year. Nearly all people in the western world suffer from breakouts at some point and it’s not just teenagers hormonal breakouts are common for women especially even in their 20s, 30s and 40s. There are lots of factors that play a part in how our skin looks and skincare is one of them.

“The Weleda Aknedoron range is NATRUE certified natural and the products are made without mineral oils or petrochemical derivatives, synthetic fragrances, artificial preservatives or parabens. With five products to cleanse, soothe, hydrate, mattify and treat, the result is a complete care system for blemish prone skin.”

They’re all vegan too and the packaging can be widely recycled as Weleda has teamed up with TerraCycle to ensure that these tubes can be recycled anywhere in the UK. The original Aknedoron bottles are made of 85% recycled glass and can of course be recycled too.

The Weleda Aknedoron and Weleda Willow Bark products are available from www.weleda.co.uk and selected natural health and beauty retailers nationwide.

The new Willow Bark products and the Aknedoron Cleansing Lotion were kindly provided to me to test and review. The Aknedoron Purifying Lotion was purchased by myself. I regularly buy Weleda products and have been doing so for many, many years. As always, all my reviews are 100% honest and all thoughts and opinions are my own.
