What to Wear as a Winter Wedding Guest

Winter is just around the corner – well, we’ve already had quite a lot of snow this past week! With the change in season, we also welcome the Christmas wedding season with beautiful winter weddings. How exciting!

When dressing for a winter wedding that you’re attending as a guest, there are a few things to consider. It’s not quite as easy as a summer wedding as the weather conditions need to be taken in to account more.

The good news is that there are plenty of stunning wedding guest dresses that work wonderfully for the winter wedding season. In this article, we’ll look at how to best choose a suitable outfit for a winter wedding and how to best accessorize and style it to look amazing and ensure that you stay warm throughout the festivities too!

  • Find out the details

Before you chose your wedding outfit, find out the details for the wedding you will be attending. What is the official dress code, how formal is the event and how much time will you be spending outside? Also check the weather forecast closer to the day to check if you need to make any last minute changes or additions to your outfit.

  • Choose your outfit

Most winter weddings are mainly indoors so you can still pretty much wear any suitable wedding guest dress and style it for the season. Some colours and designs might seem a bit too summery and a dress with a longer sleeve is more suitable than a sleeveless dress. Maxi dresses are a great option for winter weddings as they will help keep your legs warm too.

Darker colours, that you might avoid for a summer wedding, work really well for wintertime. A dark or festive red, a dark racing green or a beautiful navy colour are all great examples of colours that suit the colder season wonderfully. As always for wedding guests, the main colour to avoid is white! Floral prints or other prints also work well – just opt for a darker background colour. Heavy, thick fabrics fit the season perfectly too.

Of course, dresses are not the only option – a classy jumpsuit or stylish suit for women can look great too. Dress them up with the right shoes and accessories.

  • Accessorize for style and warmth

Once you have settled on your dress, it’s time to accessorize. A velvet blazer, a classy long wool coat or a large shawl are all great options to layer over your outfit for any parts of the event that might be spent outdoors.

When it comes to shoes, opt for closed-toe options like pumps, flats or even a pair of chic boots. Wear tights to keep your legs warm and don’t forget to put a spare pair of tights in your handbag.

Shoes

Speaking of handbags, handbags in velvet, faux fur or a material embellished with sparkly stones, sequins, or pearls look festive and make an amazing addition to a winter wedding outfit. If you will be spending some time outside, you might want to add a pair of leather gloves to your outfit to keep your hands warm too.

Loose, classic waves or glamorous curls are both great hairstyle options for a wedding or a fashionable up-do if you prefer your hair away from your face.

For make-up, a good rule is to choose to focus on either your eyes or your lips or go for a natural, soft look. Either would look great with a winter wedding guest outfit. A little bit of shimmer or sparkle is also suitable for the festive season.

Collaboration.
