Family Travel Essentials – Our Must Haves When Travelling

I love travelling with my family but it can be quite stressful and difficult when you have young kids and have to carry a lot of stuff with you. Here are some of our favourite products that I count as essential when trying to make family travel go smoothly!Family Travel Essentials - Our Must Haves When Travelling A Mum Reviews

  • This is my go-to backpack since a while back. The Feuerwear Urban Backpack Eric made from recycled fire hose (see my full review here) is simply amazing. It’s the most comfortable backpack I’ve ever worn and I use it every week for different things and for travel too. You can expand its size and it can fit lots of stuff which is great when you have two kids in nappies! I use the backpack as a changing bag quite often and also as a shopping bag when I go to the supermarket on foot and with the pram and don’t have any hands left to carry bags. I can fit so much in it and even when it’s full of groceries including heavy things like 4 pint bottles of milk and tinned goods, it’s still really comfortable to wear. It’s brilliant everyone should definitely have one!
  • Chillipeeps 3in1 Teat & 3in1 Spout (see my full review here) are such clever inventions! They are travel teats and spouts that you can attach to pretty much any formula carton/bottle or water bottle. This means you don’t have to back any bottles if you’re formula feeding your baby and you don’t have to pack a special sippy cup or bottle for your toddler. You can just pick up the drinks you need in the airport or wherever you are and attach the teat or spout and your child has a drink genius! They have protective covers and take up a lot less room than large cups and bottles.
  • iPad Mini! An iPad is a must have when travelling with young children not babies but older kids who might enjoy an episode of Peppa Pig or something like that. We save using the iPad until we really need it and try to get our toddler to use up as much energy as possible in the airport playing actively. Then she can watch a bit of Peppa Pig or Ben & Holly on the flight and sit still!
  • Hand wipes! These are great for kids and adults to clean hands with and can be used to clean the table on the plane or train too to ensure it’s clean for your little ones to play on. These Carex ones smell like Strawberry Laces which is nice for everyone as it’s a sweet and fun scent rather than the classic hand sanitiser smell.
  • A Power Bank / External Battery Pack for our phones is an essential too so that we don’t need to worry about running out of battery. I’m not fussy about brands when it comes to these, as long as they are compact and work then I’m happy! This BC Master one is easy to fit in your pocket or handbag and has a purse friendly price tag.
  • Snacks for everyone! Both parents and children get cranky and grumpy when hungry so it’s best to keep everyone fed and fuelled. I like to pack snacks that the whole family can enjoy and something we all love is The Primal Pantry raw paleo bars (see my full reviews here). They are delicious and healthy!
  • This is a new essential of ours and something we really needed the aLLreLi travel charger. It’s got 4 ports to plug in USB-devices like our phones and iPads and four different plugs so you can use it all over the world. We’re always struggling to charge all our devices but now we can using just one plug.

Another great travel product that I’ve come across recently is the mifold the Grab and Go Booster seat that is a very compact booster seat for children from age 4 and above. It’s 10x smaller than a regular booster seat and just as safe, meeting or exceeding the r44.04 EU regulations for child restraint systems. It’s ideal to take with you if you know you’ll be travelling by car at your destination or on the way and are not sure if there will be a booster seat available for your child. Look out for a full review of the mifold here next week.
